Minerals – Definition
Friday, July 10th, 2009Minerals are basically solids that are formed due to geological processes. They are found to occur naturally. They are said to be true minerals if they are solids with a crystal structure. They tend to have a defined or a specific chemical composition and are homogenous in nature. The crystal structure is based on the atomic or ionic arrangement. They highly influence the physical properties of a mineral. They can be classified based on their composition from pure and simple elements to complex elements with various forms. Though a rock also occurs naturally they do not have a specific chemical composition.
